What to Look for in a PRP Training Course...
Must Haves…
- CME Accreditation
- Small Group Hands-On if desired
- Microneedling Training Included due to synergies between the procedures
- Online-Only Training is sufficient if one is skilled in aesthetic injections like fillers.
- Training in depth and visual endpoints to ensure the best results.
- Know who your faculty is before you sign up.
- Do not train from someone who you outrank. MD’s should not learn from NP’s and NP’s should not learn from RN’s.
- No need for “advanced” or “Level 2” courses
- Opportunity to Train in Dermal Filler and Microneedling on the same day for ultimate synergistic effect.
Why Train in PRP (Cosmetic Uses of Platelet-Rich Plasma)?
PRP has been used in medical indications since the 1990’s but the cosmetic uses of PRP have emerged over the last 15 years. The medical literature has numerous trials of the growth factors in PRP stimulating aging skin and tissue to regenerate over time, without drugs or lasers. It is truly the autologous approach to age management skin care.
- Straightforward to learn in a 1-day CME-Accredited Training curriculum
- Complications very rare with good technique and judgment.
- Straightforward injection technique. Simpler than Botox or Fillers.
- The only treatment that can rejuvenate skin and subcutaneous fat naturally without drugs.
- Incredible synergy with fresh Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Filler.
- Great synergies with Microneedling especially for Scars and Scalp.
- High Margins and dependable repeats every 3 months.
- No prescription agents used.
- Straightforward post-care regimen for patients.
- Initial equipment expense of $1,000-$3,000.
- However this generally includes enough blood tubes to become profitable before reordering
- Patients need significant education regarding treatment benefits. Most do not know how they can benefit from a series of PRP treatments.
- May take a year to see results in patients with significant volume loss.
- Nobody really notices the impact of a single treatment. It takes a series properly spaced.
- Limited benefit if one is not trained in Fillers and Microneedling also.
- Few states specifically give guidance for scope of practice rules regarding cosmetic PRP.
- Do not oversell the hair/scalp indications.
What Degree Do I Need to Train in Cosmetic PRP?
Most states do not explicitly mention scope of practice for PRP. Therefore, it is recommended that you use the same guidelines as Dermal Fillers …
MD or DO for unrestricted practice after training in state of licensure.
NP and PA can practice after training provided they meet any state supervisory rules if any.
RN’s after training will need to meet state supervisory rules in every state but may train and practice.
NMD may be legal to practice after training in 4 states.
DDS/DMD require individual state medical board research.

How is PRP Regulated since there are no Pharmaceuticals to buy like BTX and Fillers?
PRP isolation equipment requires FDA Clearance as a “Class 2” Device. Your training programs will discuss the dozen or so approved vendors. Here is one training program that has an accredited online course that does this exact necessary step.
Do NOT buy PRP equipment from Amazon, Alibaba or any other source other than the manufacturer of the equipment.
Here is the FDA statement on PRP equipment.
What is the Vampire Facelift(R) and Vampire Facial(R)??
These are trademarked terms by Charles Runels and the Cellular Medicine Association (see above link). In order to use the term you must train with them and pay a monthly fee. The Celluar Medicine Association is not a governing body over cosmetic platelet-rich plasma use or microneedling.
No medical procedure or idea can be trademarked, only the name.
The Facelift trademark refers to a procedure where platelet-rich plasma is placed over fresh hyaluronic acid dermal filler, which is taught by many other training courses.
The Facial trademark refers to the use of fresh PRP topically on the skin along with a microneedling procedure. This is also taught by PRP training classes that also train in microneedling.
